Then I called the manager back and asked how accurate he needed this map to be, and he said as accurate as dirt can be. I was thinking of scanning the whole area to provide a highly accurate Topo of the land, but when I calculated the timing to scan such a large area, it was like 2 full days of work (no way, Jose). I got a phone call from my yard manager saying that we had to measure 30 arcs of land to provide the top elevation of dirt to find out how much cut or fill they need to flatten the land. There is a whole other discussion when it comes to accuracy in the surveying world, but in the simplest term, accuracy is referred to as how closely a measurement or observation comes to measuring a true value. In fact, if we are not using GCP (Ground Control Points) while surveying with drones, the accuracy is in inches and sometimes in feet rather than in millimeters. But before we jump into the discussion, I would like to make certain things clear: drone surveys are not as accurate as a total station or a GNSS receiver.
